Overview

In 1998 when there was an acute shortage of cooking gas, Consumerfed commenced cooking gas distribution at the instance of the Government of Kerala. In the initial days, Consumerfed worked with two agencies that were already involved in cooking gas distribution to ensure sufficient supply. Later, the federation set up a bottling plant in the Palakkad district and started distributing cooking gas under the brand name Neethi Gas. Neethi Gas was made available to the public through Triveni stores and other co-operative establishments. In 2007, Consumerfed strengthened and expanded the gas distribution under the name Suneethi Gas. The Neethi Gas plant currently has a capacity to fill over 5000 cylinders per day. Apart from distributing Neethi Gas, Consumerfed also takes up gas filling contracts from public sector companies like BPCL and IOCL. Besides, IOCL’s Chhotu 5kg gas cylinders are made available through Triveni Supermarkets.
